Lord, you give light to my lamp. My God brightens the darkness around me.
Dear Ones: You Give Light! David sang this song on the day he was delivered from all his foreign enemies and King Saul. When David was in deep trouble and running for his life, he always turned to the Lord. In his darkest hours, the Lord responded to David and showed him the way to escape. What a testimony of a great leader who persevered through many dark hours.
David’s testimony and words of praise in this psalm encourages us to persevere through the challenges we are facing today. The Lord does not forsake us. He is there even as the darkness tries to overwhelm us. Psalm 119:105, TLB, tells us that He guides us with His light. “Your words are a flashlight to light the path ahead of me and keep me from stumbling.”
What are the situations or challenges that are facing you today? Be assured that the Lord knows how to deliver you and to give you favor. He said in John 14:18, TLB, “No, I will not abandon you or leave you as orphans in the storm—I will come to you.” Even as He was in the fire with the three Hebrew men, He is with you even now as you read these words. When you think you have run out of strength, that is when He carries you through to victory. Give Him your lamp and He will keep it lit.
May you say like David said to the Lord, “You give light” even when you are surrounded by darkness. Turn to Him immediately when troubles rise up against you. Don’t wait. Don’t let the enemy get a foothold in you. You are more than a conqueror through Christ. That is who you are. Have a blessed weekend as you think on these things.
