Why Did You Doubt?

Immediately Jesus reached for Peter and caught him. Jesus: O you of little faith. Why did you doubt and dance back and forth between following Me and heeding fear?
Matthew 14:31 (VOICE)

Dear Ones: Why Did You Doubt? Peter was walking on the water at the Master’s command. Then suddenly “doubt” crept into his mind and he began to sink because he looked to the waves and not the Lord. But the Lord grabbed him and kept him from drowning. Then He asked Peter, “Why did you doubt?”

This is a great lesson for all believers to learn. In the midst of victory, the enemy sends in doubt and unbelief to shake our faith. Then fear grabs us, and we begin to sink under its weight as we look to the chaos and not to the Lord. This is why it is essential to exercise our faith daily. Take every opportunity to declare your trust in His ability to take care of your needs, your family, and your nation.

Build Faith Not Doubt

How do we do this? Every time a negative situation arises, don’t react emotionally but ask for the Lord’s guidance. For example, when you are on a shopping excursion having trouble parking, ask the Him to guide you to the open place He has prepared for you. This may appear to some as overly simplistic, but it is actually spiritual faith exercises.

If you train yourself in this fashion, then when “water-walking” is needed, you won’t let doubt and fear sink you. You will look to the Lord in faith knowing He has come through for you when you call. (Yes, even in the small things.) Remember, to always thank Him when He comes through in the small victories. Then you won’t here the admonition, “why did you doubt.”

Declaration: “I chose not to waver in my faith in the Master. That way I will not hear Him ask, “Why did you doubt, Me?” Lord help me to recognize the daily opportunities that I can use to build my faith. I choose to reject all thoughts of doubt in Your ability to help me overcome every adverse situation I face today. In Christ, I am an overcomer and a water-walker. Praise the Lord!” Have a water-walking day in Jesus’ name.
