The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah), Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy)
Dear Ones: Those Who are Oppressed! In 1828 Mr. Webster defined the word oppressed this way: burdened with unreasonable impositions; overpowered; overburdened; depressed. These things he listed are all works of the enemy of our souls. Our Messiah, Our Savior, declared that His mission was to destroy the works of the devil and his minions. He quoted Isaiah 61 declaring its partial fulfilment. Truly, the New Covenant certified by the Blood of Christ is greater than what Isaiah had in his day.
This current cultural system is intentionally set up to oppress and control us. The demands of daily life directly attack the cohesiveness of family life. The term “rush hour” epitomizes the truth of this statement. The purpose is to steal our peace by pressurizing everything in our lives. BUT in Christ we are set free from the dark one’s pressure cooker.
Oppressed No Longer
The good news of the Gospel of Christ introduces us to a new way of life: Life in Him and through Him. This new life brings forgiveness, healing, and freedom from the assault of darkness on our lives and our families. No longer are we to be counted among those who are oppressed. We are now children of God grafted into the Vine, Who is Christ. Does this mean that the attacks of the enemy will stop? NO. But now we are armed with the authority of our King to grind the enemy into the dirt in victory. When we use the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) in faith against these attacks, the enemy must flee. It has been written!
Declare that you are no longer among those who are oppressed but an overcomer through Christ Who is your strength. Believe the words spoken by the King and know that they apply to you and yours, today. It is a good day to remember just how great a victory that the Lord won for us through the Cross. Enjoy enforcing His victory in your life. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
