And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Dear Ones: The Wisdom of Men! Changes with the tide of the current culture norms. Paul knew this. So, he purposefully sought to reveal Christ to the Corinthians through the demonstration of the Spirit and power. He did not want their faith to be founded on his oratorical excellence but the power of the Cross of Christ.
We are to take seriously Paul’s counsel about presenting the good news of salvation to someone. Fancy wordsmanship is not needed but honestly sharing the truth of salvation through the Cross is. The truth is that the wisdom of men leads us down the path of self-promotion and eventually self-deceit. When the orator and his methods become more important than the message, there is a grave problem. The messenger becomes puffed up and the recipient’s faith is unstable.
As we have seen recently with the exposer of some Christian leaders, some people are walking away from the faith. Their beliefs were grounded more on a person than on the Cross of Christ. This is what Paul was talking about and purposefully avoiding.
Determine to build your faith on the power of God through the Cross and not the wisdom of men. Pray for Christian leaders to follow Paul’s good example. The enemy wants to destroy and kill the integrity of the message of the Cross in our society. Establish your faith on the foundation of His power and His Word by rooting yourself in His Word. Have an overcoming day. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
