The Upper Hand

If you will only listen and obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, he will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall always have the upper hand.
Deuteronomy 28:13 (TLB)

Dear Ones: The Upper Hand! In this verse Moses was talking to the children of Israel. Israel only had the shadows of the fullness of salvation, yet they prevailed when they obeyed the Lord God. We are on the redemptive side of the Cross and the truth in these words apply to us today, too.

In John 14:15 the Lord tells us, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Through the Cross we come to know the love of God and obey Him because we love Him. Knowing God as our loving Father changed everything. Obedience comes through a love relationship and not fear. When we obey because we love Him, then we have the upper hand over all the things that contend with us.

We are the head and not the tail. The Lord knows the strategies and tactics of the dark one and his minions. He never leaves us even in our most challenging situations. His indwelling presence gives us the upper hand when we fight against the darkness for ourselves, our families, and our nations. We fight the good fight of faith from His position as Victor not as a downtrodden victim.

May you come to believe that in Christ you have the upper hand over all the situations in your life. Obedience is a key because it is rooted in hope and faith in His Word. Meditate on these things this week and see how your attitude changes. Look through His eyes and know you are the head and not the tail. You are an overcomer and shall prevail. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
