The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
Dear Ones: The Generous Soul! Will be made rich in all things: natural and spiritual. When we read about generosity it is natural to think of finances. But this verse is not limited to money giving. Giving of one’s time and labor to help someone in need is an act of generosity. Pouring out spiritual blessings on a parched and thirsty soul is also included. Consider the spiritual thirst that is evident in the outbreak of revivals on the college campuses. They are thirsty souls running to the only One Who can quench their spiritual dryness: The Lord Jesus.
The word of a generous soul can be a source of blessings for those experiencing hard times. Their comforting words in times of grief and loss are described in Proverbs 25:11, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”
Our greatest example of what it means to be generous is the life of our Lord Jesus. He taught the multitudes about the Father and the Kingdom, then He released the power of it to them. On the day of His Ascension, He commissioned His disciples for all time to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. … And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:15, 17-18, NKJV).
May you wear the mantle of the generous soul all the days of your life. Follow the Spirit of Generosity and know that you cannot out give God. He will make you a conduit of generosity that will overflow blessings to you in every area of your life. You are a generous overcomer in Christ. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
