The Fruit of His Mouth

A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].
Proverbs 18:20 (AMPC)

Dear Ones: The Fruit of His Mouth! Our words are extremely important. They are powerful and carry consequences for our lives: current and future. Therefore, it is useful to carefully watch our words for as this verse says, “we will eat the fruit of them whether good or evil.”

A companion verse is found in Galatians 6:7, NKJV, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” When we speak words, they are like seeds planted into the soil of our hearts. The fruit or crop that comes up from these seeds will give us a harvest that we reap in our lives and our children’s lives.

It benefits us to desire the good fruits of the Spirit which are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, and self-control. Self-control is an important fruit because it can harness the tongue and keep us out of trouble: spiritual and natural. Self-control comes as we exercise our freewill to only plant good seeds with our tongues.

Consider the words of this verse: the fruit of his mouth. Examine your speech patterns. Are you constantly saying negative things about your health or your children? Do you consistently repeat all the discouraging items you hear in the news? Focus on the Words of Life and feel the atmosphere change on the job and in your home. It is a good day to sow His words of life wherever you go. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
