Stand Up

“Would you like to get well?” … Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
John 5:6b – 8 (NLT)

Dear Ones: Stand Up! Jesus purposefully went to this man who had been infirm for 38 years to ask him this question. Instead of saying yes, he proceeded to blame his ill condition on the fact that he did not have help to place him in the pool when the angel stirred the waters. He answered with an excuse instead of an enthusiastic “yes, I want to be healed.”

Sometimes we fall prey to the blame game when we go to the Lord in prayer. When we concentrate on the negative circumstances surrounding our situation, we miss the point of entering into prayerful conversation with the Lord. Yes, just like the man at the pool missed the simple answer to the Lord’s question. The Lord acted with authority against the spirit of infirmity that afflicted the man with the command: Stand Up! In obedience, healing power came into the man as he stood up, picked up his mat, and walked.

How Do We Stand Up

What can we learn from this encounter? When we enter into prayer, communication with the Lord, be simple with him about your situation and express your faith in His ability to take care of what concerns you. Then listen for His response. Be quick to follow His instructions and give all the glory to Him for your deliverance. Is this easy? Not as easy as it sounds. We are conditioned to complain, shift blame, and try to manipulate the Lord through pity. Pity does not move His hand, only Faith does that!

Declare: “I will stand up and obey the Lord’s commands. I want to be completely delivered from all that is afflicting me, my family, my nation. Rise up! I walk in faith believing He is my answer and my recovery. All glory and honor be unto the Lord, who is my deliverer. Amen.” Have a blessed day as you walk out your deliverance with every step today.
