Rivers in the Dry Wasteland

The wild animals in the fields will thank me, the jackals and owls, too, for giving them water in the desert. Yes, I will make rivers in the dry wasteland so my chosen people can be refreshed.
Isaiah 43:20 (NLT)

Dear Ones: Rivers in the Dry Wasteland! In our local area we are currently experiencing natural drought conditions. Anxious eyes look to the clouds in the sky and command them to release their rain. When it does rain, we are happy, gladly receive it, and then want more.

Spiritual Rivers in the Dry Wasteland

Like natural drought conditions, we sometimes experience spiritual droughts. It seems that our prayers are unproductive like the clouds that pass by not dropping rain. These wilderness times are like the dry wastelands described in the verse above. David referred to them as the “valley of the shadow of death.” We may ask, “Why is this happening? Why now?”

Those are questions to take to the Holy Spirit. Everyone’s situation is unique and known by the Spirit of God. The enemy wants to kill us in the wilderness. But the Lord’s plan is to deliver us from the baggage of the past that has hindered our relationship with Him. Wilderness times cause us to press in deeper to hear His voice. As we persist, then we will hasten our breakthrough out of the wasteland.

Though we did not perceive His presence in the wilderness, He never left our side. When we break through to spiritual freedom then our eyes will see the rivers in the dry wasteland. We will receive the refreshment that only He can give. We will emerge from the valley of the shadow of death looking more like Him.

Declare that He is sending you rivers in the dry wasteland to renew your spirit, soul, and body, today. Rejoice as He rains down His blessings upon you. Trample on the lies of the evil one and experience the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
