Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer.
Dear Ones: Renewed Hope and Cheer! The job of the liar and enemy of our souls is to keep our minds in a state of turmoil. The Lord gives us advice in Matthew 6:34, NLT. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Each day has its own challenges: physical and mental. Often, we are faced with the demands of a job or situation that are not to our liking. But whether we like it or not, it must be done for the circumstances demand our action.
Our western culture fosters the belief that we are never to face hard things. Hard things or challenges are to be avoided or delayed until someone else steps up to do the job we were supposed to do. Then we think the turmoil and strife will go away, but does it? The only One Who can quiet our souls is the Lord.
Renew Your Hope and Cheer like David
The psalms of David give us great encouragement. Though he expressed his despair with his life’s situation, he remembered to encourage himself in the Lord. We see this clearly in 1 Samuel 30:6, NKJV. “Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” When he sought the Lord, he had renewed hope and cheer that he would recover all that was stolen.
Follow David’s example and go to the Lord so that you will experience renewed hope and cheer. No matter what you are facing believe that you are not in the situation alone. He promised to never leave nor forsake those who believe in Him. Let your hope and cheer soar to new heights. Tackle that unpleasant job or situation and let the joy of the Lord strengthen you. Have an overcoming day. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
