You are my rock and my fortress—my soul’s sanctuary! Therefore, for the sake of Your reputation, be my leader, my guide, my navigator, my commander.
Dear Ones: My Soul’s Sanctuary! The theme of this psalm of David is “The Lord a Fortress in Adversity.” A sanctuary is a safe place to run into in times of trouble. When the forces of darkness attack, believers have a safe place to enter for our God is a Fortress and a Strong Tower. Proverbs 18:10, NLT, confirms to us that, “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” Like David we are to call on Him believing He is able to take care of us in any adverse situation we encounter.
When David declared that God is my soul’s sanctuary, he was not just talking about escaping from physical dangers. The soul is comprised of the mind, will, and emotions. When the enemy comes to torment the soul, he sends lying thought bombs to replay past traumas and fear filled images. When the enemy comes with his deceitful attacks, his first target is our emotions. Our unsanctified emotions can vacillate like the waves of the sea: up one minute and down the next.
Soul’s Sanctuary Fruit
However, the fruit of the Spirit of God brings self-control into our lives. We enjoy eating this fruit as we dwell in the sanctuary of the secret place under His wings. The fruit of self-control quiets our emotions with the knowledge that the Lord is our guide, navigator, leader, and commander. If we trust “in Him”, then the sanctuary of our soul is filled with the atmosphere of heaven.
Declare: “Every day I call on the name of the Lord Who is my soul’s sanctuary. In Him I live and move and have my being. He has made me the head and not the tail, therefore I am an overcomer. I rest in the eye of the storms of life because He is my peace. Praise the Lord, for His goodness and mercy are my forever.” Have a blessed day in Jesus’ name.
