Moral Courage

But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage];
1 Peter 1:15 (AMP)

Dear Ones: Moral Courage! What is it? Moral courage is the courage to take action for moral reasons despite the risk of adverse consequences. It is required in order to take action when one has doubts or fears about the consequences. Moral courage therefore involves deliberation or careful thought.

Moral decisions of any kind are steeped in one’s standard of what is right and what is wrong. So, moral courage must be considered in the context of one’s character and its foundations. Peter tells us that our moral courage is to be rooted in the foundation of our godly character. Believers are called to sanctify themselves through the process of becoming more Christ-like as we grow-up spiritually. We are called to be set apart from the norms of today’s culture. This means we are to hold our lives to the higher standard of God’s holy character. The Holy Spirit helps us in this awesome pursuit of Christlikeness.

Declare: “I am determined to face whatever troubles come my way with moral courage. The Word of God is the standard by which I use to determine what is right and what is wrong. I choose to follow the Master’s example and to conduct my life accordingly. Thank You, Lord, for enabling me to be more like You every day. Praise God!” Have a blessed day in Jesus’ name.
