One of His disciples, whom Jesus loved (esteemed), was leaning against Jesus’ chest.
Dear Ones: Leaning against Jesus’ chest! That is the place carved out for the ones who wholeheartedly love Him. John, the youngest disciple, chose to get as close to the Lord as possible. He knew that the Lord would not rebuff him but would draw him close to His side. That place is available to every Christian who wants to pursue a deep relationship with the Lord.
As they sat at the Last Supper table, John leaned on the Lord’s chest to hear every word He spoke. It seems that the Holy Spirit moved on John so everything about this night would be imprinted on his soul. Later, the Holy Spirit brought back the Lord’s words so he could transcribe them for the generations to come.
When we immerse ourselves into the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit will highlight verses that we personally need. Then our thirst for the Word increases even as the deer pants for water. These highlighted verses are impressed upon our souls. Our faith is strengthened and our relationship with the Lord becomes very intimate. In a sense, we slide into John’s place where we lean against the Lord’s chest.
During your prayer time see yourself leaning against Jesus’ chest. Whisper words of love and thank Him for the work of the Cross. Ask Him about what is on your mind. Listen. Let His response go down deep into your soul. Enjoy His fellowship because He has longed for your closeness. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
