Into the Daylight

4-8 But friends, you’re not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this? You’re sons of Light, daughters of Day. We live under wide open skies and know where we stand. So let’s not sleepwalk through life like those others. Let’s keep our eyes open and be smart. People sleep at night and get drunk at night. But not us! Since we’re creatures of Day, let’s act like it. Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-8 (MSG)

Dear Ones: Into the Daylight! Yes, we have a choice. All throughout the Bible in the Old and New Testament we see instances where the people are directly challenged to choose who they will follow. Joshua 24:15 is one of these occasions, “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” In a sense Joshua confronted the people of Israel with the choice to follow the darkness or to step into the daylight. Joshua declared that his entire family chose the Light.

The sons of Light and daughters of Day live under an open heaven. Paul reminds the Christians who read this letter to be smart and act like children of the Light. This is good advice to heed in this time of great turmoil and darkness. When we acknowledge that we are new creations in Christ filled with His Light then we are to act like it all day long. We know that natural light reveals what is hidden in the darkness. Likewise spiritual Light reveals the truth of every situation we are confronted with.

It is a good day to walk into the daylight of His presence. He will light up the next step you are to take. This will keep you from making missteps and believing the lies of the dark one. The truth is that you are an overcomer in Christ. Think about these things today as you step into the Light. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
