“Lord,!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.
Dear Ones: In Their Trouble! They called out to the Lord. Four times in this Psalm it plainly states that when His people call out to Him, He comes to rescue them. The word distress is defined as a pain or suffering affecting the body or mind, a state of danger or desperate need. This is a powerful statement in its own right. But when the Lord repeats Himself (not just once but four times), it means this is very important for us to understand and believe.
Each day presents its own challenges. The Lord tells us in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Our cry for help is for the present situation we find ourselves facing. The chaos of these bizarre times brings troubles we have never faced before. But Psalm 107 repeatedly tells us to call out to the Lord for today’s troubles. He will hear and rescue us from the distresses we contend with. But the crux of the matter is that our cry comes from faith and hope in His ability to save.
May the words, “they cried out in their trouble,” remind you Who to go to in your distress. He is not just able but willing to help. Your cry of faith pleases Him to know that you trust Him to rescue you from the challenges you are facing. Faith and hope are companions. Your cry of faith is rooted in hope. Romans 5:5 tells us that hope does not disappoint. Have an overcoming day filled with hope and faith. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
