So then, my soul, why would you be depressed? Why would you sink into despair? Just keep hoping and waiting on God, your Savior. For no matter what, I will still sing with praise, for you are my saving grace!
Dear Ones: This psalm is an example of how to encourage yourself in the LORD. The Word tells us that David encouraged himself in the LORD. He would rehearse in his own ear the good things that the LORD did for him. Since he loved to play the harp, he would sing his testimony to himself and the sheep that he watched over. The 23rd psalm is an example of this. When troubles come (and they will) following the example set for us in the Psalms is a good way to fight despair and depression. Revelation 12:11 tells us, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” David sang his testimony to keep his Hope alive.
May the example of the psalmist fill you with hope as you rehearse the good things HE has done in your life. May this new year bring a new season of answered prayers as Hope finds its fulfillment. Have an overcoming day. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
