The Legend of St. Valentine (Britannica.com)
St. Valentine (died 3rd century, Rome; feast day February 14) According to legend, St. Valentine signed a letter “from your Valentine” to his jailer’s daughter, whom he had befriended and healed from blindness. Another common legend states that he defied the emperor’s orders and secretly married couples to spare the husbands from being conscripted to serve in war.
Dear Ones: Happy Valentine’s Day! As we celebrate true love, giving gifts, and candy, let us consider who this day is named for. Valentine demonstrated the love of Christ to everyone. He defied the emperor and married couples joining them together in Christ.
Stop and consider the boldness of Valentine’s faith and his love for couples in love. As you exchange your cards with your special ones, consider the love that Jesus demonstrated for you through the Cross. You were on His mind as He paid the price for the sin of mankind. He is your forever, Valentine. Be sure to thank Him today.
Declare: “Lord, You are my forever Valentine. Help me to love You the way You should be loved. I truly give you my whole heart. Praise the Lord!” Have a lovely and loving day. Happy Valentine’s Day.
