When they heard this they became silent. Then they glorified God, saying, “So God has granted repentance resulting in life even to the Gentiles!”
Dear Ones: Granted Repentance! Think about it! The fact that God has given us the ability to repent, change our ways, and accept Christ as Lord is truly awesome. The Jews believed that as the chosen people repentance was granted to them but not to others (Gentiles, non-Jews). But after the events at Cornelius’ house, Jewish believers realized that repentance was also granted to Gentiles.
The mercies of the Lord are extended to every man, woman, and child no matter their nationality or other demographic. Repentance is defined by Mr. Webster in 1828 this way: Repentance is a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. Our freewill is the agent we use when we choose to repent and turn away from sin and to God.
As we travel the path of our lives, we will find the need to repent due to the constant assault of the fallen culture we live in. However, just because we have been granted repentance does not mean we practice sinning and flippantly repent when caught. Peter warned us in 1 Peter 2:11-12, NLT, “Dear friends, I warn you as ‘temporary residents and foreigners’ to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors.”
Declaration: “Lord, I thank you for the ability to repent. I sincerely take advantage of Your granted repentance so that I can live clean before you every day. Help me to walk worthy of You, Lord and overcome the worldly enticements of this present age of darkness. Praise the Lord.” Have a blessed day in Jesus’ name.
