Can anyone tell the Lord what to do? Who can teach him or give him advice? With whom does God consult in order to know and understand and to learn how things should be done?
Dear Ones: Give Him Advice! The prophet is asking the question, “Who does the Lord God seek out for advice?” As the chapter progresses, we see that our God and Father is all knowing and ever present. Isaiah 40:28, NKJV, is part of the answer that was given. “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”
Why do these verses have relevance to us today? Because we sometimes fall into the trap of wanting to give the Lord advice about the way He should respond to our petitions, prayers, and declarations. Yes, we are to go to Him and speak honestly from our hearts about what concerns us. But He is not asking for our advice or our orders on how to act. We are to present our concerns and wait upon Him for directions and instructions. Our attitude or manner of seeking His help is very important to Him.
Our Attitude not Our Advice
How do we know that our attitude is important when we pray? 1 Samuel 16:7, NKJV, reveals, “For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Then Jesus confirmed to us in Revelation 2:23b, NKJV, “I am He who searches the minds and hearts.” As we pursue Christlikeness in our spiritual walk with Him, our attitudes and manner of prayer will conform to His ways. 1 Corinthians 2:16, AMP, gives us the answer to the question in Isaiah, “For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes].”
When you go to the Lord in prayer be aware not to give Him advice as how you want them answered. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill your mouth and mind with His thoughts and purposes. He has plans to prosper you and to give you hope and a future. Trust Him. Follow His guidance and then see how He works all things out for your benefit. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
