Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Dear Ones: Fear of the Lord! This verse reveals that it is the foundation of true knowledge. But what kind of fear are we talking about? The Amplified Bible helps us understand that it is the reverential fear of worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome. Isaiah experienced reverential fear as revealed in Isaiah 6:5, NKJV. “So I said: ‘Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.’”
Isaiah was undone by the awesomeness of God’s presence. But if you read further in the chapter, his lips were cleansed with a coal from the altar. Then he was commissioned to go and tell the people what God wanted them to know. The majesty of this experience in the Throne Room stayed with him as he went as God’s prophet to the nation.
Reverential Fear of the Lord
Reverential fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom—the God kind of wisdom. Godly wisdom brings spiritual understanding and discernment with it when we seek it. We must be careful not to take the goodness of God for granted or diminish His holiness with familiarity. Our God is Love, but He is Holy, too. Our worship is supposed to express our respect for His holiness. Then it becomes an expression of reverential fear of the Lord.
Declare: “I am determined to worship God as an expression of reverential fear of the Lord and His awesomeness. Like Isaiah, I am overcome with His majesty as I press in to acknowledge His holiness and purity. He is gracious to accept me as I am when I come to Him marked with the blood of Christ. But He loves me too much to leave me as I am. I am changed in His presence. Praise the Lord!” Have a blessed day as you worship Him in spirit and in truth.
