Choose Today

But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve.
Joshua 14:15a (NLT)

Dear Ones: Choose Today! Joshua challenged the people of Israel to use their freewill to choose which gods they were going to follow. The Lord God of Israel was the One Who brought them out of Egypt and shepherded them in the wilderness. But they had to choose to serve Him in the freedom and prosperity of the Promised Land.

In different places throughout the Old and New Testament, God challenges His people to make a choice: that is to exercise their freewill. Our freewill cannot be taken by the dark one, so, he has to continually work to keep people in his camp. Because at any time a person can exercise their freewill through repentance and turn to serve the Lord and not the devil.

Choose Repentance Today

Joshua’s challenge is one that each of us faces every day. In fact, the act of repentance simply means to change one’s mind. The Greek word “metanoia” means just that: a change of mind, as it appears to one who repents, of a purpose he has formed or of something he has done. (See Matthew 9:13.) We make choices every day about many natural things, but not all have supernatural consequences.

However, Joshua’s challenge does have eternal-life consequences. It is comforting to know that repentance has been granted to all of the human race through the work of the Cross. Acts 11:18, GNT, reveals to us. “When they heard this, they stopped their criticism and praised God, saying, ‘Then God has given to the Gentiles also the opportunity to repent and live!’” It is good practice to declare that you choose to follow the Holy Spirit every day rejecting everything that is tainted with darkness.

Declare: “I choose today to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance in everything I do. All my words and actions shall conform to His will and plans for my life. I repent of any word or action I may have said or done in ignorance. I choose life as an overcomer in Christ. Praise the Lord!” Have a blessed day as you choose wisely in Jesus’ name.
