Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Dear Ones: Be of Good Courage! This psalm of David is one of my favorites. David totally trusted the Lord with his life. Therefore, he was able to wait for Him to move in His timing. This took great courage because fear, doubt, and unbelief lurked in the shadows of delay.
When we read the psalms of David, we realize that David is first encouraging himself then the others who heard him sing. When he was out in the pasture alone with the sheep, his songs of faith and trust in the Lord were shared only with God. This is why God said of David that he was a man who sought after His heart.
David’s declaration, “be of good courage,” stirs our souls today. We are to follow his example and encourage ourselves in the Lord while we wait for His hand to move in our situations. Courage is a constituent part of fortitude; but fortitude implies patience to bear continued suffering during the delay. Fortitude is determination and staying power to press through to victory. In the delay, the Lord will strengthen our hearts as courage and fortitude feed our faith and trust in Him.
Speak to yourself today, “be of good courage.” Believe that the Lord will strengthen you in the delay. Let patience feed your faith. May you be known in heaven as a child of God who seeks His heart. It is a good day to be courageous while He works out His good plans for you and your family. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
