If your children ask for bread, which of you would give them a stone?
Dear Ones: Ask for Bread! These words are from the Lord’s Sermon on the Mount. He is making the point that our heavenly Father is a GOOD Father, better than our natural fathers. If our natural fathers would feed their hungry children, then we should believe that our heavenly Father would do even better.
Through this question, the Lord is encouraging the listener (reader) to go to our Father in heaven with our needs just like a child does with their natural father (parent). He is in essence saying to ask the Father for our daily needs (bread) and expect to receive what we asked for. Our Father God is not a trickster who would give us a stone when we need bread.
The Lord taught the precepts of the Kingdom and the goodness of Father God wherever He went. He would teach then He would demonstrate the goodness of the Father and the wonders of His Kingdom. It is recorded that He fed the multitudes that followed Him on two occasions. He still is concerned about our daily needs because He does not change. His nature is the same: yesterday, today, and forever.
May these words bring a calm to your soul that He will provide for you and yours, if you ask. Enter the throne room and ask for what you need according to Hebrews 4:16. Then by faith thank Him, for He is your GOOD Father. Think on these things today as you go about your business. Have an abundant day in the Lord. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
