God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control.
Dear Ones: Self-Control! Is a fruit of the Spirit. The spiritual fruits listed in Galatians 5:22-23 are actually the characteristics of the divine nature. Peter confirms to us in 2 Peter 1:4b, NCV. “With these gifts you can share in God’s nature, and the world will not ruin you with its evil desires.”
When the fruit of self-control is activated then we can operate with the mind of Christ. First Corinthians 2:16, AMP, reveals, “For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes].” The fruit of self-control enables us to be guided by the Master’s thoughts and will.
We need the divine character trait of self-control to live an overcoming life. Holy Spirit enables us to control ourselves by His power at work in us. Without His help, our fallen “old man” will act on reckless or out-of-control impulses which the enemy takes great advantage of. It is easy to be reckless when the spirit of fear rules our hearts. Recklessness is a character trait of the fallen one, not God’s. Self-control is the antidote to these reckless impulses when the spirit of fear tries to rule our lives.
Declare: “Lord, by faith, I choose self-control over recklessness. Activate the mind of Christ in me, so that I can overcome the attacks of fear that have been launched at me, my family, and my nation. I am an overcomer as I partake of the divine nature through the power of the Spirit at work in me. It is a good day to control myself and reject the spirit of fear. Praise the Lord!” Have an overcoming day in Jesus’ name.
