Fear of the Lord

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!
Psalm 111:10 (NLT)

Dear Ones: Fear of the Lord! What does this mean? Does God come to terrorize? No, it is the exact opposite. He is the One Who sent His Son to die on the Cross and reconcile you back to Himself. Then what is this fear that the psalmist sings about?

In this instance, the fear of the Lord is moral reverence for His holiness and purity. It is what Isaiah experienced in Isaiah 6:5, NKJV, when he saw the Lord. “So I said: ‘Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.’” Isaiah was overwhelmed by the awesome revelation of the majesty and holiness of the Lord God.

Reverential Fear of the Lord

We are instructed to be reverent and respectful in all our dealing with the Lord. To be ever mindful of His holiness and power, is to lay the foundation of true wisdom in our souls. His greatness is not to be diminished by cavalier familiarity. The current trend of disrespecting natural parents has its dark origins of diminishing our heavenly Father in our eyes. If we seek wisdom, then we must fear the Lord. He is our Father, but He is due the respect, honor, praise, and adoration for Who He is.

Declaration: “With a humble and loving heart, I fear the Lord, Who is my loving Father. I invite true wisdom to lay a foundation on my worship and respect for Him as I learn more about the Godhead daily. As I grow in wisdom, my desire to praise Him explodes with love bringing His showers of grace. Praise the Lord!” Grow in wisdom in Jesus’ name.
