The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.
Dear Ones: The Simplicity of a Child! This is the way the Lord wants us to come to Him. As we read the account in Mark 10, we see that the Lord was furious with the way the disciples treated the children. “Don’t push them away or get between them and Me!” was His response to their methods. His passionate love for children and the ones with child-like faith in Him is revealed like a burning fire. Hebrews 12:29 confirms to us, “For our God is a consuming fire.”
His words are especially relevant these days as the abuse of children is being exposed in all its ugly perversion. In addition, the persecution of those with child-like faith in Him is also being uncovered as a concerted attack of the darkness. What these perpetrators do not realize is that they are calling down the fire of God upon themselves unless they are quick to repent and make restitution.
For those who are in Christ, we are instructed to go to Him with the simplicity of a child. Believe and trust Him even as a child runs to their parents in times of need or just for a cuddle. Notice how the Lord scooped up these children in His arms and blessed them. In His arms is a good place to be no matter what the circumstances are in our lives.
Accept His Kingdom with the simplicity of a child reaping the blessings of His presence every day. Realize that when the enemy attacks you that the Lord is your strong tower of safety. He not only defeats the enemy but scoops you up in His arms releasing a blessing to you. Enjoy resting in His arms today. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
