5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun will not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night. 7The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your life. 8 The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in [everything that you do] From this time forth and forever.
Dear Ones: Your Keeper! This psalm is one of the songs sung by the Hebrew pilgrims on their uphill journey to Jerusalem. They sang them to prepare their hearts for the feast they were about to celebrate. These songs extolled the greatness and goodness of God. Though the uphill journey was challenging their hearts were gladdened as they praised the Lord God.
When we sow the seeds of these songs into our hearts, today, we join in with those pilgrims of long ago. Our current journey through life may be like an uphill journey. But the Lord Jesus expressly called us to cast our cares onto His shoulders. When we yoke ourselves in faith to Him then He carries the heavy load. He specifically tells us in Matthew 11:30, AMP, “For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”
It is hard to express in our natural language the majesty and greatness of His love for those people who call Him Lord. He is your Keeper: The Keeper of His Father’s sheep. His sheep know His voice and will not follow after a stranger. His rod and staff protect you and guard you wherever you roam. HE IS GOOD. This is important to remember because the lying voice of the tormentor constantly lies about our Lord’s goodness every chance he gets.
May you rejoice because the Lord is your Keeper. Every detail of your life is important to Him. Let the words of this psalm encourage you to build up your faith in His goodness toward you and yours. It is a good day to celebrate the liberty you have in Him. He is your safety and your strong tower. I bless you in Jesus’ name.
